From a little shell at the bottom of the sea, with the earth and the moon and the sun above me. But the world fell down with some people still around. There is love, there is love to be found.
Freaking out because it takes the blood bank 4 days longer to get the results of the HIV/Hepatitis test, which is absolutely ridiculous as I know that they will be negative. What a messed up mind.
Consumers may soon be able to test themselves for HIV and quickly learn the results in the privacy of their own homes following a unanimous approval recommendation from a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee on Tuesday.
The panel said the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test should be made available over-the-counter (OTC) saying the test is safe and effective and that the benefits far outweigh the potential risks.
If approved by the FDA, the test will be the first OTC test to be marketed for HIV or any infectious disease. FDA advisory committee recommendations are not binding, but they are generally followed.
An estimated 1.2 million Americans are living with HIV, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. One in five of those are unaware of their HIV status. And about 50,000 new cases of HIV are reported each year.
amazing news! i was wondering if we’d be seeing this soon. looks like a yes :)
Actually, those are bad news. There is good reason why these tests are prohibited in so many countries. This isn’t about effectiveness. Its simply about the lack of information about HIV in our society.
When you get tested in a clinic or at your doctors, you will also be prepared what the result means, whether its positive or negative.
Getting a positive result at home, alone, will very likely cause a irrational reaction like suicide because many see HIV as a death sentence, which is absolutely wrong.
I’ve spoken to a lot HIV-positive people and every single one said that they were lucky to have someone with them when they got the news. To press this point further: A good friend of mine commited suicide after taking a home test he found on the internet.
Also, if you take the test at a clinic, they will double check a positive result by running another, different test to minimize the chances of a false result.
like a pro. this would have been less awkward if I hadent worn heels a skirt. oh, the perks of volunteering at the HIV Support Center.
(I also have to find a gay guy who will go to the local cruising points to inform the men there about the next testing day.yay)
